Dirty Work: Cleaning the Gutters

Thursday, July 31, 2008

Yesterday was an interesting day. I found myself high up on a roof, cleaning the gutters of my investment property. Anyone that knows me knows that dirty work is not my thing.

The gutters flat out had to be cleaned. When I bought the property, I don't believe the gutters had been cleaned in years. In fact, it couldn't have been. The property sat vacant for two years before i purchased it and it showed. We cleaned up the inside and rehabbed the property, but neglected to do the gutters.

Well, eventually it had to get done and for about three weeks I had been saying that I was going to get it done. Yesterday was the day!

The black muck that had formed from the decomposing leaves, dirt, insects, and water was terrible. I filled up two garbage bags of the stuff just from the gutters.

As you can see, plants had started to grow inside the gutters. This can be very bad for the property as eventually the access weight can cause the gutter to fall off entirely and expose the interior of the property to the outside elements. This is something that you don't want to happen or I don't want to happen, thus I was on the roof yesterday.

I will tell you that the sun really takes a lot out of you from working in it. I was wiped after I finished. I rested and took my day off from my workout routine and let my body recover.

However, today the plan is to get a couple of miles of ROADWORK in and reclaim my workout schedule. It is happening!

Out.
